Serration Rolling Machine Manufacturer in India

Hardev Hydraulics manufactures precision serration rolling machines for DIN 5481 serrated shaft profiles on 4–60mm diameter shafts. Cold-rolled serrations provide superior press-fit strength for steering columns, power tools, bicycle cranks and automotive sub-assemblies.

About Serration Rolling

What is a Serration Rolling Machine?

A serration rolling machine cold-forms sharp-crested serrations (teeth) on the cylindrical surface of a shaft. Unlike splines, serrations are typically used for press-fit interference connections — the serrated shaft is pressed into a matching hub, creating a high-torque, vibration-resistant joint.

The most common standard is DIN 5481 (45° included angle serrations). Cold rolling produces serrations with higher surface hardness, better dimensional consistency and superior press-fit performance compared to milling or knurling.

  • DIN 5481 standard serrations — 45° flank angle, sharp crested
  • Shaft diameter range: 4mm – 60mm
  • Cold rolling — harder surface for better press-fit grip
  • No material waste — serrations formed by displacing metal
  • Consistent tooth geometry across entire production run

Serration vs Spline vs Knurling

Serrations (DIN 5481): press-fit connections, high bite torque.
Splines (DIN 5480): sliding/fixed torque transmission.
Knurling: hand grip, press-fit in soft materials.

A serration rolling machine cold-forms sharp-crested serrations (pointed teeth) on cylindrical shafts. The rolled serrations are used for press-fit interference connections where the serrated shaft is pressed into a hub, creating a high-torque, vibration-resistant joint without fasteners.
DIN 5481 is the German standard for serrated shaft connections. It specifies sharp-crested (pointed) serrations with a 45° included flank angle. It is the most widely used serration standard in automotive and industrial applications worldwide.
Our serration rolling machines cover shaft diameters from 4mm to 60mm. For shafts above 60mm or special serration profiles, contact us for a custom solution.
Serrations (DIN 5481) have sharp pointed teeth and are primarily used for permanent press-fit connections. Splines (DIN 5480) have involute tooth profiles and are designed for sliding or keyed torque transmission. Serrations bite into the hub material on press-fitting; splines mate with a matching internal spline.
