Serrations are parallel ridges and grooves formed on the outer surface of a shaft, bolt shank or hub — typically with a triangular or knurled profile. When a serrated shaft is pressed into a matching bore, the serrations bite into the mating part and create a positive anti-rotation and anti-pull-out interface without the need for keys, pins or splines.
Cold-formed serrations — produced by our Ludhiana serration rolling machine — are superior to machined (milled or ground) serrations because the rolling process displaces metal without removing it. The serration ridges are work-hardened, providing higher grip force and wear resistance.
